History of the Holden Commodore 1978 – 2013 Framed
This superb sportsprint celebrates the historic progression and timeline of one of Australia’s most unique muscle cars – The Holden Commordore.
The Print has images of every series of the Holden Commodore from the beginning to the new released Commodore in June 2013.
In the mid-1970’s, Holden established proposals to replace the long-serving Kingswood nameplate with a smaller, Operl-based model. Opel continued to provide the basis for the future generations until the launch of the fourth generation in 2006, which deployed an Australian developed platform.
Initially introduced as a single sedan body style, the range expanded in 1979 to include a station wagon, with utility and long-wheelbase Statesman/Ca[rice derivatives following in 1990. The foundations for a revived Monaro coupe, four-door Holden Crewman utility, and all-wheel drive Adventur crossover were provided by the now discontinued third generation architecture. From 1984, Holden began branding the flagship Commodore model as Holden Calais; the Holden Berlina and Holden Ute followed in 1988 and 2000, resepectively. There were known previously as the Commodore Berline and Commodore utility.
The VF Commodore, a major overhaul of the VE, was officially revealed on 10 February 2013. The GM Zea platform (introduced with the VE), the body shell, suspension and electrics have been thoroughly reworked to reduce weight, improving handling and fuel efficiency. Changes to the model lineup see the deletion of the Berlina nameplate, which combined with the standard Calais variant, represented the smallest model share of sales in the lineup while the base model was renamed from the Omega to become the Evoke.
The standard features list shows front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and auto park assist on all models in the range, and high spec model such as the Calais-V and SS-V redline models pick up forward and reverse collision alert and a colour heads up display as standard features.
